Between 1972 and 1978, her most prominent role was that of Emily Hartley on The Bob Newhart show. Pleshette was Christine Broderick's lead in Nightingales (1989). From 1994 until 1995 she played Jackie Hansen's character in The Boys Are Back. Pleshette was a regular character on the TV show Suzanne Pleshette. She played Maggie Briggs and Good Morning, Miami. 8 Simple Rules, Will & Grace were some of her characters. She also was a part of The Geisha Boy, and The Birds. As a vocalist in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride she was nominated for an Annie Award. Pleshette received two Golden Globe Awards nominations.
