April Ross
April Ross is one of the few female beach volleyball stars who have won medals in more than one Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross Tokyo to win her third gold medal in the coming days. Ross's dream is to earn her first Olympic Gold. As she is 39 she could have her last shot. However, she's convinced that top prizes are in reach. Ross on NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing well or at all they can earn a gold. This is also a matter of chance. Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. In addition to competing in various sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. While a prep student, she competed in basketball, indoor volleyball and running track. In her final game, she clearly stood out. When she played in her college volleyball season, according to her college biography she played as an outside-hitter, middle-blocker and setter. Her efforts were recognized in 1999 when she was named Gatorade's National Circle of Champions players of the year. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her due to her volleyball skills. Even though Ross Klineman and Ross are in the spotlight since 2017, the former was already a big-time athlete on the beach prior to their team. The American has been a major winner in tournaments twice with different partners. A couple of those has become an iconic player in the world of volleyball. She teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and she also served as Klineman's coach. Kessy was Ross's co-coach at the 2009 World Championships. They went into winning a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the legend team which was the winners of the 2012 Olympics in London, edged their opponents to claim the gold medal. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she had retired. In 2016, the pair took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. After high school and years before she hit the sand as a pro Ross played for the USC Trojans as a collegiate. She had a great run through college. When she was a freshman in 2000 Her performance was rewarded with the Pac-10 and NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. The Trojans could also make it to the Final Four with her help. Her personal life was tense after a devastating loss during her sophomore year, yet was successful in achieving the All-American title. In her last two seasons in the Trojans team they won success by winning two consecutive national championships. As an individual, she established her place as a legend having won the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the highest ranked female volleyball player. Ross majored at USC in International Relations. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie was not able to witness Ross rise to the top levels of beach volleyball stardom. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001. Ross was an USC sophomore. The cancer was diagnosed as breast. She continues to keep her mother's memory close and dear. Margie, on the beach as well as in everyday life, inspires her.
