In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track at the time within one year. It was a combination of reggaeton with pop that not only brought new attention to reggaeton music, but also the popularity of Latin music. In 2020, several Reggaeton stars were dissatisfied with the trend of the genre towards mainstream. Yet, a newer generation, Rauw Alejandro, was keen to maintain the development. The genre often incorporated elements from electronic dance music and other genres.
